Centre allocates funds for Northeast tourism development

In order to develop tourism in Northeast, the Centre has earmarked 10 per cent of the plan allocation of the Ministry of Tourism.

In order to develop tourism infrastructure in the Northeast, the Centre has earmarked 10 per cent of the plan allocation of the Ministry of Tourism for the region, official sources said here today.

An amount of Rs 500 crore had been allocated in the year 2004-05 for development of tourism in the country, the sources said.

The financial assistance given includes aid for promotion of fairs and festivals every year on a continuing basis and the budget under the head domestic campaign has been increased for the region.

In order to give wide publicity to the tourist attractions in the Northeast, the ministry has launched a national and international awareness campaign on a continuing basis, the sources said.
