The 60-year-old pilgrim was part of the group heading towards the Arafat mount to join others in the ritual. A close relative, Israr Ahmed, told Hindustan Times, his was barely a km away from the site, when the stampede started and he instantly suffered a heart attack.
“I’m told by his companions on Haj, he couldn’t endure the tragic happening and died on the spot,” he said.
The family that was trying to get in touch with authorities in Mecca, recieved this information, late on Friday evening. “We have been trying to gather information about him ever since flashes started coming on news channels,” he said.
On the other hand, his name doesn’t figure in the list of victims sent to Kanpur by UP Haj committee to Shaher Qazi Qari Abdus Sami. According to Shaher Qazi’s office, no pilgrim from Kanpur was dead or injured in the stampede.
Meanwhile, the Muslim community enmasse prayed for well being of every pilgrim after the Friday prayers.
