TP Chandrasekharan, 51, of the Revolutionary Marxist Party — expelled from the CPM in 2008 over his proximity to former CM VS Achuthanandan — was stabbed more than 50 times and his face mutilated. The next day, his supporters attacked the homes of CPM workers across north Kerala. At least 30 houses were attacked and two dozen vehicles burnt.
