The university did not give them examination forms on the plea that the college where they took admission bypassed the quota allotted by the university. “Thus, they are ‘extra’ admissions and the university is not responsible for sending them examination forms,” the university officials said.
However, these students admissions have agreed to take examination from Brihaspati Girls Degree College in the private sector. They have refused to pay fresh admission and the examination fee. According to the students, they had already paid admission fee to the Sen College believing that their admissions were finalised at the college.
Neither the admission committee nor the college principal informed them about the fact that they were given admission on the presumption that the university would accept their admission.
At the eleventh they were told that they could not get admission to the college due to seat restrictions imposed by the university.
Secretary of the College management Board Sameer Sen refused to pay the fee of to these students so that they could take admission to some other college.
According to Sen, it was the duty of the college principal to ensure that admissions were made as per the allotted quota. If the principal has committed anything wrong the management under no statutory rules was liable to pay for the wrongdoing of the principal, he added.
He said the principal had neither informed the management about the extra admissions not sought any permission from the university to admit extra students.
“It is either the students or the principal herself who should bear the financial burden,” he said.
Sen said he had ensured that the principal should not use the college funds to pay the admission and the examination fee to 83 three students.
According to informed sources the principal of the college was making efforts to get the funds from any of the miscellaneous college funds to pay the admission and examination fee of all the 83 students at the Brihaspati Degree College.
