However, tension was palpable in the locality and police and RAF personnel were deployed there.

According to tradition, the Moharram procession of Buxipur locality passes from Buxipur to Nakhas followed by the historical procession of Mian Saheb.

A huge crowd gathered there to catch a glimpse of Mian Saheb on Saturday.

On the same day, the immersion procession of Goddess Saraswati was coming from Goraknath side towards Nausar following the same route.

According to eye-witnesses, the police personnel and sub-inspector deployed in the area allowed the procession to pass through without any prior permission.

As a three-wheeler carrying the idols of Goddess Saraswati neared DAV Inter College, it hit a bicycle belonging to a member of a particular community. When the driver and processionists were engaged in a verbal duel with the bicycle owner, the Moharram procession of Buxipur reached the spot. On seeing the immersion procession, they raised slogans against the administration. Sources said the agitated youths sat on a dharna on the road, but senior members of the community promptly intervened and controlled the situation.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the fifth of Moharram, the procession of Mian Sahib was taken out from Imamabara Mian Bazar.
