The agitation will be led by former Union minister Satya Prakash Malviya, former DCC president Ashok Kumar Bajpai, DCC president Dr Amarnath Mishra and city Congress president Chaudhary Jitendra Nath Singh.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held at Congress office at Zero Road on Tuesday. The meeting was presided over by DCC president Dr Amarnath Mishra. Workers and office-bearers of the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal and students wing of the party attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, national secretary of the Congress and Member of Parliament Praveen Rashtrapal exhorted the Congress men to propagate the achievements of the Union government among the people. He said the Central government had given several hundred crores of rupees to the State government to implement the Guaranteed Employment Scheme but the Mulayam government had not utilised the funds properly. He alleged that the SP government was working with a feeling of revenge against the Congress.

Rashtrapal said job cards had not so far been prepared by the State government to ensure employment for the unemployed persons.

Addressing the meeting, All India Congress Committee member Ashok Kumar Bajpai said it was the duty of Congress activists to educate the people about the schemes launched by the Central government for their welfare. Bajpai said the Congressmen should contact people and inform them about the party’s policies. He said the Assembly elections could take place any time and the party workers should build the atmosphere in favour of the party as there was no alternative to the Congress now.

City Congress committee chief Jitendra Nath Singh said the party workers should not feel disappointed and they should launch a tirade against the communal and casteist forces.

DCC spokesman Moharram Ali said in a press release that the meeting was attended by Ram Krishna Srivastava, Virendra Mohiley, Rangraj Singh, Sanjay Tiwari, Sushil Mehrotra, Madhu Chackaha, Shakil Ahmad, Raghunath Dwivedi, Dinesh Soni, Pramod Azad, Ishtiyaq Ahmad, Gulam Ali Dulha, Suresh Saxena, Harishchandra Malviya, Kamla Pandey, Prabhat Mukherjee and Raj Bahadur Yadav.
