Police suspicion stems from two things: An unidentified body found in Naini matched with the description given to the police about Sanjay by his parents and secondly there were strong rumours in the area that Babloo had done away with his brother for grabbing the parental house.
Son of Nanku Gupta, a grocer, Sanjay used to help his father with odd jobs in the shop which the family owns behind the police station. Babloo, on the other hand had gone wayward long back. Having fallen into bad company he was addicted to liquor and gambling.
For the sake of money, he often quarrelled with his father and became violent at times. Though he had been denying having any hand in the disappearance of his brother but both police and the residents of the area appeared quite sure that Babloo was the culprit in this crime. Sanjay had reportedly disappeared from his house under mysterious circumstances about two months ago. Though his father did not lodge any missing report at the police station initially but he along with relatives had been trying to look for him at every possible place. Sanjay had no bad habits. He was confined to the family business which had been dwindling over the years. The family had been passing through hard days and Babloo's bad habits had made things even worse, said a resident of the area.
It's only a matter of time when police succeeds in getting the truth out of Babloo, he added.
