It also casts doubts over the services provided by the police at the examination centres. The varsity authorities for the first time in four decades have also introduced their own foolproof security system to check the menace of copying.
The varsity also made it mandatory for the invigilators to carry I cards provided to them by the Superintendent of the examination centre. Each invigilator would have to submit two recent photographs to the examination superintendent, who after verifying the photographs, submit one of them to the university and the other would be pasted on the I-card of the invigilator.
The invigilators would have to carry I-cards to the examination centers every day.
They would be given entry into the classroom only after intensive verification of their credentials.
The new system also upsets teachers and principals.
They feel humiliated and could not understand as to what prompted the university authorities to adopt such a humiliating system? The colleges are being run by the teachers and the principals with utmost sincerity and honesty.
The university never doubts their integrity. Do the university feels the community of teachers is untrustworthy. They feel the system bound to lower their position among students.
Many of them said that if the university could not trust the teachers how could it think of putting the burden of bringing improvement in education through them.
Instead of taxing teachers and principals, the university should appoint professional security guards for invigilation duty.
On the other hand, a senior police official also objected to extra steps taken by the university in checking the entry of the unscrupulous persons into the college.
According to the police, though they do not want to be in the controversy, yet they feel that this will also put a question mark on the police efficiency.
It was also funny as how could unscrupulous person posing as teacher could enter the examination centers when a group of college teachers assisted by the constables remain on gate duty throughout the examination period.
Many professors pleading anonymity accused the university authorities for their failure in raising the academic standards but they succeeded well in “marketing their abilities as good administrator” and winning cheap popularity throughout the State.
They said the authorities should realise the hard fact that the academic standards had degenerated during the past few years.
Many of the courses run by the University lacked qualified faculty but no attention was ever paid to improve it ,they alleged.
