Curfew relaxed in Aligarh

The curfew was clamped after local BJP leader OP Gupta was shot dead by suspected hired killers on May 28.

With the situation returning to normal in areas of this town that were hit by communal violence last week, authorities relaxed curfew for three hours on Wednesday.

Officials said no untoward incidents were reported when curfew was relaxed in phases in the five areas of Kotwali, Bunna Devi, Gandhi Park, Delhi Gate and Sasni Gate.

The curfew was clamped after local BJP leader OP Gupta was shot dead by suspected "hired killers" on May 28.

His killing sparked communal clashes that left two persons dead.
