Design
Design
Design, whether industrial, product, textile or ceramic, has always been an integral part of any manufacturing process. At the time of independence manufacturing was in a very rudimentary stage. Design was seen to be functional rather than aesthetic. It more or less remained so till the opening up of the Indian industry in the nineties. India has been an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with a working inexpensive technical design for the past 25 years. Maruti car was a classic example of this. For the last ten years India has been moving towards being an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). Brands such as Titan, Indica and Scorpio are brilliant examples of this.

In essence, any kind of industrial design is about humanising technology. It's about blending engineering with aesthetics.
