Digvijay Singh booked for landing chopper at rally venue

Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh has been booked for landing his helicopter at the venue of an election meeting in Uttar Pradesh instead of the designated helipad, the police said on Friday.

"A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Thursday against Digvijay Singh, who landed his chopper at a rally venue in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district," police inspector Jai Karan Singh told IANS over telephone.

Singh was in Gonda on Wednesday to address an election meeting at the Ramlila ground. As per the arrangements, the Congress leader's helicopter was to land at the helipad set up at the Kanhaiyalal Inter College, but it landed at the meeting venue only.

"The landing of the helicopter was unsafe and was in violation of the model code of conduct. On the directions of the district administration, we onThursday registered the case against Digvijay Singh," the inspector added.

Gonda is some 150 km from Lucknow.
