Drive against power theft in June

POWER CORPORATION officials will launch a major drive next month against big defaulters and those tampering with meters. The UP Power Corporation Ltd chairman has virtually given the green signal to take stringent action against the big defaulters. Their electricity connections will be snapped. The Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB), the district jail, the sports college, the municipal corporation and the SSP?s office are among the big defaulters.

POWER CORPORATION officials will launch a major drive next month against big defaulters and those tampering with meters.
The UP Power Corporation Ltd chairman has virtually given the green signal to take stringent action against the big defaulters. Their electricity connections will be snapped. The Seema Sashastra Bal (SSB), the district jail, the sports college, the municipal corporation and the SSP’s office are among the big defaulters. The Power Corporation has made all arrangements to disconnect their electricity connections.

Besides, the power corporation has identified 250 consumers whose power consumption is less than 50 units per month. The department will lodge an FIR against them.

Power Corporation general manager PN Srivastav said the government was determined to check power theft and increase revenue. He said the corporation had issued a notice to all departments for attaching properties of defaulters. A notice has been issued to these departments by the administration.

To a question, he said tampering with meters had raised the hackles of officials. “We are determined to check power theft.”

He also said the corporation had introduced the Accelerated Power Distribution Reform Programme and a computer-billing centre had been established in the industrial area power station.

He said construction of a 33 KVA power substation was on at Durgabari and this sub-centre would start functioning by the end of June. Srivastav said the corporation had lodged an FIR against 10 consumers. Two were arrested for power theft in May. The drive will be expedited from June. He appealed to people to cooperate.
