Cyber crime experts say that more and more youths with technical degrees are falling for the business of running pornographic websites for easy money.
The two persons — Ankur Bedi and Harvinder who were arrested by the city police from Jalandhar for allegedly being involved in uploading MMS clips on their porn websites — have a technical background.
According to the police, Ankur works with a private bank after doing BCA, while Harvinder is a second-year BCom student. Both are in their early 20s and run several porn websites.
“The two are very young and tech-savvy. They admitted that they were operating the porn websites for the past three years and making decent money. One of their porn websites had got 57 lakh hits in one month. They were making money through advertisements, downloads and selling videos,” said Triveni Singh, head of Noida police’s cyber crime cell.
After getting complaint from a city couple, the police blocked these porn websites and started investigations. “We approached the website hosting service provider and asked for the log of porn website owners. We finally tracked the owner of the website in Punjab and arrested them on Sunday,” said Singh.
A police team has been sent to Mathura to arrest the hotel owner. The police are also investigating if there are other such complainants who became victims of the racket.
“We have got records of some more pornographic websites’ owners and they will be arrested soon. All the people, including the service provider, website designer, domain registrar and hotel staff, involved in the crime will be booked,” said Singh.
The two accused were on Monday produced before the district court, which sent them in police remand for six days.
According to cyber crime experts, all the demands made online and porn videos are shared at various forums.
“All the porn websites are making handsome money which attracts the youth,” said Sunny Vaghela, a self-proclaimed ethical hacker.
