In his address, Pesh Imam Beniganj Eidgaah Maulana Junaid Alam called upon the people to share each other’s pain and joy to spread the message of brotherhood and to win the confidence of their neighbours.
He threw light on the life of Prophet Ibrahim who devoted his entire life to the God and bore unbearable pain in spreading the message of the Almighty.
Maulana focussed on the relevance of the sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim in the present scenario.
Temporary shops of ‘sewain’ and animal markets were set up in various areas.
Markets were abuzz with hectic activities till late night. The district administration had mad elaborate security arrangements for peaceful commencement of the festival. Rapid Action Force was deployed at Beniganj, Mubarak Khan Shaheed Eidgaah and Eidgaah Bale Ka Maidan while police personnel were kept mobile in the areas.
In Varanasi, festive atmosphere gripped the entire city, including Madanpura, Badi Bazar, Nai Sarak, Jaitpura, Lallapura, Shivala, Dal Mandi and Bazardeeha areas etc.
Special prayers were offered in prominent mosques of the city. People turned up in large number at the mosques situated in Aalmpura, Chittanpura, Al Quresh, Gauriganj, Rasulpura, Lat Saraiya, Madanpura, Shivala, Revri Talab, Pitarkunda, Ordely Bazar, Andhrapul, Nadesar and Badi Eidgah in Kashi Vidyapeeth area. The women folk also offered namaz at Lalapura-based Ehle Hadis Eidgah. It was the only mosque where women offered prayers.
Earlier, before offering prayers, Ulemas preached the members of Muslim community about the importance of this festival. After offering namaz, the members sacrificed goats and sheep at their houses to mark the occasion and distributed the meat among relatives, neighbours and the poor.
