The traders voluntarily removed encroachments from the road connecting Bal Vihar to Bhopal Talkies on Saturday to pave way for the widening of the narrow road.

Initially, the shopkeepers opposed the removal of encroachments when the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolition squad arrived. The BMC would construct 18-meter wide road here.

Few days back, the BMC authorities had removed a platform constructed by the owners of Bhopal Plaza. This commercial complex is constructed insider the premises of Bhopal Talkies. The BMC team today arrived to remove the encroachments on the other side of the road.

Most of these shops belong to scrap dealers. Initially, they protested against the removal of encroachments and some of them closed their shops. Later on the shopkeepers began removing the encroachments on their own after being convinced by local corporator Mohammed Sarwar.

There are about 60 shops situated on this road. Of these, the front portion of about 40 shops has been constructed by encroaching on the drains and a part of the road. Some of the shopkeepers have even constructed concrete structure. Today morning, the BMC put up the marks on the front portion of these shops so that the shopkeepers could remove their sheds or structures on their own.

BMC additional commissioner K K Singh Chauhan, who led the BMC team, said that one floor of this building was removed. He said that the removal of this encroachment would be continued till Monday.

Afterwards, the roads would be constructed. Chauhan informed that another building by the side of Bhopal Talkies campus would also removed.
