After three days of twists and turns in the Noida double-murder case, police on Monday said they have detained a former domestic help of the Talwar household and were looking at him as the main suspect.

Top police sources told HT that Vishnu Thapa, 25, who worked with the Talwars for seven years, had confessed to the killings but the exact sequence of events was still to be established.

Aarushi Talwar, a 14-year-old DPS Noida student was found dead by her parents Rajesh Talwar and Nupur in her bedroom on Friday morning. The Talwars’ domestic help Hemraj’s body was recovered on Saturday. Police are also interrogating a person employed in Talwars’ clinic who is suspected of helping Vishnu.

Sources said Vishnu first murdered Hemraj and then killed Aarushi as she had seen the two together.

ADGP Brij Lal said Vishnu was the prime suspect in the case.

Earlier, just hours after Aarushi’s body was found, police had said Hemraj was the prime suspect and that he was missing. A day later, Hemraj’s body was discovered from the terrace of the same house. Police then said both were murdered on Thursday night.

Around eight months ago, Vishnu had quit his job at the Talwars. Before leaving, he had introduced Hemraj to the family. Earlier this month, Vishnu returned and asked Hemraj to leave as he wanted to work for Talwars again. However, Hemraj was reluctant, police said. On Thursday, Vishnu met Hemraj at the Talwars’ home. Vishnu took Hemraj to the terrace and after an argument, he killed him.
