Schools are a nervous lot these days perhaps as nervous as the kids preparing for Class X or XII board exams. Stress is mounting, and the schools are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the kids find a shoulder to lean on in these times of crisis.
While most schools are relying on the good advice and lots of support formula, others like DPS, RK Puram, are not taking any chances. They are launching round-the-clock helplines for counselling students.
DPS RK Puram students can call up the in-house helpline and get professional advice on any exam stress-related query. “Those who have not done well in the pre-boards are tense. I am counselling them personally.
Some kids complain of insomnia or loss of appetite. The idea is to provide support that helps diffuse tension,” says DPS, RK Puram, principal Shayama Chona. “Parents are calling up saying ‘my son does not budge to even take a bath,” adds Chona.
Experts say it’s not just the kids, but even many parents who require counselling School principals and experts offering counselling services say the nature of the queries start changing as time progresses and it is really a fortnight before the exams that the students hit the panic button.
