A security source said the blast occurred at 9:30 am (1200 IST) at the fuel station, which is close to one of the entrances to the interior ministry in central Baghdad.

The bombing was the latest attack in a wave of violence unleashed across Iraq, mostly in Baghdad, that has seen hundreds dead in the past 10 days.

On Wednesday nearly 60 people were killed across Iraq, while 39 others were kidnapped from a ministry building in Baghdad in a brazen daylight operation.

Most of the hostages were later released with only two still held captive.
