President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that the failure of Iran's talks with the European Union on the country's nuclear programme was not Tehran's fault, the news network Khabar reported on Tuesday.

"The nuclear talks with the European Union envoy had reached positive results but unfortunately the EU envoy had no sufficient authority and eventually the talks had no tangible outcome," Ahmadinejad said, referring to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
"Some of the Western countries are against the progress of the Iranian nation, including in the field of nuclear technology, and therefore whenever the talks are approaching fruitful results, they disrupt the process under various pretexts," the Iranian president told Putin in a telephone conversation on Monday night.
