The widow of the deceased--having the responsibility of looking after four kids and a mother in-law--has been running from pillar to post requesting varsity officials for an appointment on compassionate grounds but in vain.
Amrit Lal, a regular class IV employee of AU's Agro Economic Research Centre died after drowning on October 14, 2005. He was regularised on the post of 'Chaukidar' on June 16, 1999 by the then Registrar Prof AN Seth. Amrit Lal's widow Roopa has applied for an appointment on compassionate grounds in the university but the authorities concerned have failed to entertain her request.
According to Roopa she has repeatedly submitted her application to the Director Agro Economic Research Centre (AERC) Prof SA Ansari since the death of her husband. "I have been repeatedly requesting the Director to do the needful but after making me run around for weeks he rejected my application citing a letter of the Union Ministry of Agriculture dated January 9, 2006 which asked him not to appoint me," Roopa claimed.
The letter sent by Ministry of Agriculture has denied the appointment on grounds of GO issued by Ministry of Agriculture prohibiting any appointment against posts falling vacant due to superannuation and resignation. Roopa has charged Prof Ansari with misrepresenting the facts to the Ministry and indirectly opposing the appointment. She said that the GO issued by Ministry of Agriculture has banned appointments against post falling vacant due to superannuation and resignation but not for appointment on compassionate grounds.
She claimed that Prof Ansari had dishonoured the GO for obliging his candidates and did some appointments recently.
Roopa alleged that the staff of AERC were also favouring the director and trying to stop her appointment. Losing hope of help from the department she tried to meet the Vice-Chancellor but was restrained by the employees. She said, " VC is the last resort and I expect him to do the needful to save me and my family from starvation".
