Having ensured meetings of the Executive Council and the Academic Council already and with meeting of the Finance Committee also scheduled for September 15, AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe is said to be now keen to get the first meeting of the AU Court also held before the year end.
The aim: Completing the responsibility of ensuring meetings of varsity's all primary bodies of which the members have been directly nominated by the Union Ministry of HRD within one year of taking charge as VC.
The onus of ensuring the meeting of the Court members has fallen over the AU VC with the Union Government completing its task of nominating members to the body.
"We will hold the first meeting of the Court by December. After the Finance Committee meeting, we are planning to have a meeting of the Executive Council at which the date for the court meeting is expected to be finalised.
This will lead to intimations being given to members giving them one-month notice for the proposed meet only after which the meeting can actually take place," said Prof Rajen Harshe while talking to HT Allahabad Live on Thursday.
He said that as per the University of Allahabad Act-2005, at the annual meeting of the Court, a report on the working of the university during the previous year, together with a statement of the receipts and expenditure, balance sheet as audited and the financial estimates for the next year will be presented.
"We are bound by the Act to also send a copy of these documents to every member of the Court at least seven days before the annual meeting," he added.
The Union Government has, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 45 (1) C of the University of Allahabad Act-2005, constituted the first Court of the University, vide communication of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (No. F32-8/2006 Desk (U), dated July 11, 2006, consisting of members for a term of three years with effect from July 11, 2006.
As ex-officio members, the court has the chancellor, vice-chancellor, deans of the existing five faculties, dean of Students Welfare, registrar, finance officer, director of Institute of Inter-Disciplinary Studies, Director of Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute and principals of Allahabad Degree College, Ewing Christian College, CMP Degree College and Rajarshi Tandon Girls' Degree College.
