Former Jharkhand agriculture minister Yogendra Sao, accused of patronizing two extremist groups, was sent to Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail on one-day judicial custody by a Hazaribagh court on Wednesday.
The state CID produced the Barkagaon legislator, who was arrested from New Delhi on Saturday for funding and forming Jharkhand Tigers and Jharkhand Bachao Andolan, before the court of sub divisional judicial magistrate, Garima Mishra on Wednesday.
Sao will be produced again before the court on Thursday along with other co-accused of the case, who have been languishing in Hazaribagh based jail.
A CID team led by investigating officer Anuranjan Kispotta took Sao to Hazaribagh after his release from the Ranchi based Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was admitted for chest pains since Sunday.
Coming out of RIMS in police custody, Sao said, “People know about everything. I have been falsely implicated in the case. Truth will prevail. I have full faith on judiciary”.
Sao entered the court premises at 9:50am. The CID submitted the former minister’s RIMS medical report that declared him fit.
Sao will be produced along with seven other co-accused who have been arrested on different dates in September by the Hazaribagh police. The co-accused has been in judicial custody for the past 14 days and will produce along with former minister.
Arrested from New Delhi’s Shakurpur area, Sao was brought to Ranchi on three-day transit remand that ended on Wednesday. At the Hazaribagh jail, Sao has found a place in Anda Cell number 7 – a high security single room in the jail campus that is separate from the mass jail wards.
With Sao in jail the Jharkhand police have launched a special operation to nab his close aide Panna Lal Mahato on charges of trafficking from New Delhi.
Mahto, from whose Delhi residence former Jharkhand agriculture minister Yogendra Sao was arrested on Saturday evening is a prime accused of human trafficking in four FIRs lodged with Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in Khunti.
Additional Director General of Police CID, SN Pradhan said, “A team of the Jharkhand police will go to New Delhi to arrest Mahato.” He added that the CID will also start fresh investigation in Sao links the human trafficking accused.
Mahto also shared close links with trafficking kingpin Bamdev, who was arrested last month. AHTU Khunti-in-charge, Aradhana Singh had informed the CID that Bamdev and Mahto knew Sao personally and Bamdev had admitted that he attended Vidhan Sabha sessions in Ranchi with Sao.
Along with Bamdev, Mahto ran at least 400 placement agencies in Shakarpur area of New Delhi, said the police.
