Das said he had resigned from the party for expressing displeasure over the functioning of the party in Rourkela for the last several years.
He said he had sent his letter of resignation to BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik. Das, who did not announce his future course of action, was a member of the legislative assembly from 1999 to 2004.
