Gangster shot dead in TN police encounter

A notorious gangster allegedly involved in the murder of AIADMK functionary MR Ravi recently, was shot dead in suburban Korattur.

A notorious gangster, who was allegedly involved in the murder of AIADMK functionary MR Ravi recently, was shot dead in an encounter at suburban Korattur in the wee hours on Wednesday, police sources said.

Nagoor Meeran was said to have been involved in several other murder cases.

Ravi, the Ambattur town secretary of AIADMK, was hacked to death by a gang on June 2. While one person had been arrested on Sunday, six others had subsequently surrendered in the case.

Wednesday's encounter comes in the wake of nearly 300 arrests made by the city police on Tuesday, following media reports over the city's increasing crime rate.
