Prof Srivastava said that with the micro-study of the area the danger of a quake could be estimated and which can further be taken into account while developing the cities and towns.
Prof Peeush Ranjan Agarwal, head of MNNIT School of Management Studies, emphasised over the national policy for the distribution of relief among the victims. Citing the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, Prof Agarwal said that the National Institute of Disaster Management should be established for prompting research and deliberation over the natural calamities.
Speaking at the technical session on 'Geo-technical earthquake engineering' Prof MN Validkar of IIT-Roorkee presented his study over the structures and its behaviour. Other speakers like PK Basudhar, MK Rajpal, S De, A Dey and K Deb presented their paper on 'Application of some soil liquefaction models and their comparative study', R Singh and D Roy delivered a paper on 'Anisotropic undrained back analysis of embankment failures due to static liquefaction' while Kumar Venkatesh, AD Pandey and NK Samadhiya spoke on 'Effect of elastic modules of foundation media on response of barrage raft floor'.
Dr Sarfarz Ansari spoke on 'Consideration of soil characteristics and seismic effects on bridge pier scour'. Other speakers who delivered their papers also included Dinesh Khare, Roma Pathak, Rajiv Kumar and Abhay Bhatnagar besides Ranjan Srivastav, GK Dwivedi and Meenu Gupta.
Addressing the technical session on 'Seismic analysis of structures' Prafull Chitre and Dr RK Ingle spoke over the guidelines for the safe designs. GW Rathore analysed the recent tremors in Pakistan.
Proposing a vote of thanks Organising secretary of the seminar Dr RP Tiwari said that a consensus was reached during the seminar regarding the development of mechanism which would be able to combat any natural calamity. There is a need for an awareness programme for the dissemination information of the welfare agencies and programmes among the common people. Dr Tiwari further said that experts were unanimous over grading of the danger zones in order to prescribe the suitable structure for an area.
