According to SB Pandey, coordinator Childline, Mamta was on her way to Chhindwara with her parents. "The train stopped at the Allahabad junction and she along with her grandfather detrained for some work at the city side area. However, the girl missed her grandfather and was unable to board the train at the right time and went missing," he added.

"She found her way to the Shahganj Police station at night. The police station officials immediately contacted Childline and handed over the girl to us. She was only able to tell about her destination as Basi. But through her language she spoke, I speculated that she must be residing somewhere at the border of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. However after much search we came to know that she belonged to village Dauna, district Kushinagar, Sadar Padrauna and kasba Basi," said Pandey.

Through his continuous contact with the SP Padrauna and CO, Pandey was able to trace out the exact destination of the child. The child had to be sent to the shelter home at night. "At night we informed all the stations of GRP, RP and Police control room to register the FIR and look for the whereabouts of girl's parents," he said.

In the afternoon on Friday, the girl's father came to Childline and expressed his happiness over finding his daughter. But he had a different story to tell.

"Lakshman Yadav, the girl's father, informed that he immediately reached GRP thana to lodge an FIR about his daughter's missing but the officials abused him and refused to do so. Had they listened to Lakshman, the problem would have been solved much earlier. He was also not helped by the railway staff to make an announcement about his missing daughter at the junction station," said Pandey.

The girl is, however, in safe hands of her parents at the moment on account of the initiative undertaken by Childline.
