Thousands of litres of spurious mineral water bottled and pasted with well known labels are supplied from unhygienic locations in villages here, HT has found. This correspondent reached a ‘plant’ surrounded by garbage in Samaspur village near the posh Sector 51 on Tuesday but was prevented from entering it by people who gathered around.
The police have arrested seven low-level workers but the big fish are still at large.
Said DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal, “The accused have been in this business in Gurgaon for years. They said there are five illegal plants here. Our teams raided these plants and sealed them on Tuesday night.”
Mayfair Garden resident Teena Sharma was aghast. “Now I don’t trust any brand. I will now have to buy an RO (reverse osmosis) system.”
