Gurgaon couple shot at by woman's brothers

In a case of attempted ‘honour’ killing, a couple who eloped and got married against the wishes of their parents was shot at by the girl’s brothers in Safedpur village of Pataudi town on Thursday night.

In a case of attempted ‘honour’ killing, a couple who eloped and got married against the wishes of their parents was shot at by the girl’s brothers in Safedpur village of Pataudi town on Thursday night.

The two are admitted in a Delhi hospital and are said to be out of danger. Seven people have been booked in the case.

Ved Pal, 26, and Monika, 24, who belong to different castes, married one-and-a-half years ago in a temple and had been living in a rented accommodation in Gurgaon. Monika is from Jhajjar district’s Patoda village, while Ved Pal is from Todapur Heili Mandi near Pataudi village.

On Thursday, Monika’s family — mother, two brothers, sister and brother-in-law — visited the couple and persuaded them to return to their village.

The couple stayed at Monika’s village for a day and then decided to return to Gurgaon on Thursday night. Monika’s mother and brothers also accompanied them. But when they stopped near Safedpur village for refreshments, Monika’s elder brother shot Ved Pal from behind. When Monika tried to save him, her younger brother shot her on his mother’s command, police said.

The accused then fled from the spot thinking the couple was dead. However, they managed to call the police and survived.
