Ganpat Bamane's appeal against his conviction eight years ago is pending before the High Court. Bamane's bail plea was rejected by a Division Bench of Justices FI Rebeillo and RS Mohite on Friday. The bench stated that prosecution had presented a sufficient case not to allow the bail application.

Samant was killed in Mumbai on January 16, 1997 when he was travelling in a Tata Sumo, which was fired upon by four persons.

Bamne was arrested in the same year and released on bail later. He was convicted along with one Vijay Thopte on July 25, 2000. Three witnesses had identified Bamane during an identification parade, the prosecution had argued before the court.
