His hands move up and down and then disappear. The sticks become many and beat a rhythm out! All dance, some sway and the shy say wow! He is 14 and just amazing with drums. Kartikeya will be the first Indian to attend classes at UK?s best drumming institute Drumtech. And if you think that?s this is incredible, then you must also know that he?s been invited to attend and perform at the Open Day Function at Drumtech.

He is 14 and just amazing with drums. Kartikeya will be the first Indian to attend classes at UK’s best drumming institute Drumtech. And if you think that’s this is incredible, then you must also know that he’s been invited to attend and perform at the Open Day Function at Drumtech.
“Drumming is my passion. I wanted to own a drum set since I was four but my parents got it for me only when I was eight and since then my passion for drumming has just been growing,” says Kartikeya.
Kartikeya does not take more than five seconds to hit the stool close to his drum set or the keyboard if you ask him to play. His passion for drumming is instantly recognisable once he starts playing the drums. “I can play the drums blindfolded now. I have practised so much that by now I know where to hit when. I usually practice at night, in the darkness,” says Kartikeya. And you can see him panting once he has finished performing. Plus when he played Yanni on the keyboards you straight away know that he is no ordinary kid.
An interesting fact that Kartikeya’s father Mayank told HT Lucknow Live is, “Kartikeya had never received a formal training in drumming till July 2005. He learnt it on his own. However, when I saw that he is picking up well on his own I bought him a few video CD’s on drumming and he picked drumming even faster after that.”
Kartikeya is playing the drums since he was 8 and also knows how to play the tabla, keyboard and guitar. This wonder kid has received a Visharad in tabla from Bhatkhande Music Institute and learnt the keyboard and guitar on his own.
“Music is imbibed in me. I just pick it naturally. Once I listen to a music piece I can play it on my own with a little practice,” says Kartikeya.
In July 2005, Katikeya went to Singapore to receive sixteen days training in drumming from two world famous drummers, Kevin Kew and Tony Zee. “I received personal attention from both my teachers. They saw where I was wrong and strengthened my strong points further,” says Kartikeya.
At present Kartikeya plays on an eight piece Pearl Drum Kit. “The drum kit that Kartikeya is using right now is one of the best drum kits. We bought it from Singapore,” tells Mayank, Kartikeya’s father.
“I want to become a musician one day and I want to start my own band,” says Kartikeya. His favourites in the music industry are Yanni, Santana and Bon Jovi.
Karikeya has a large collection of video and audio CD’s now and he says, “I am proud of my collection. I also have a good collection of magazines and books on music.”
“One of the happiest moments for me was when I received a standing ovation at the Crossroads last year,” tell Kartikeya.
