Hinduja brothers return to top 10 richest in Britain

In an amazing return, the Hinduja brothers have been placed seventh on Sunday Times Rich List of 1000 wealthiest in Britain.

Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja have made an astonishing return to the first top 10 in the 2003 Sunday Times Rich List of 1000 wealthiest in Britain. Until a couple of years ago, they were invariably in the first 10, but had slid down beyond even the first 20. They were at 35th slot last year.

Now, placed at the seventh position with an estimated £1836 million fortune, they have been the second fastest risers, from £700 million last year to the present wealth of £1836 million. The Times report attributes this to " share rise".

The Brothers have surpassed the steel baron Lakshmi Mittal who is now placed at the 12th position. Mittal was estimated to be the richest among Asians in this country for the last three years. But, now he is second to the Hindujas, although Mittal has climbed, too, from 22nd slot in 2002 to the 12th this year, his fortune shooting up from £900 million to £1310 million. He is also in the fifth position among the fastest risers this year.

There are, in total, 39 Asians out of which 31 are of Indian origin in this year's Sunday Times List Rich List, considered mother of all Rich Lists. The first list appeared way back in 1989.
