Home ministry team to review law and order

A central team headed by union Home secretary Madhukar Gupta would arrive in Imphal on Wednesday to review the law and order situation in Manipur in the wake of increasing violence in the border state, official sources said on Tuesday.

A central team headed by union Home secretary Madhukar Gupta would arrive in Imphal on Wednesday to review the law and order situation in Manipur in the wake of increasing violence in the border state, official sources said on Tuesday.

The team comprising Joint Secretary Home (north east) Naveen Verma, Joint Secretary (border management) G S Patnaik and Director of North-1 A K Goyal would fly to the border town of Moreh after arriving here from Guwahati on Wednesday.

The team will hold consultation with officials posted on the proposed fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border there and also on the construction of an integrated check post in the border town.

After returning from Moreh on the same day, the team would call on Governor S S Sidhu and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh separately to review the law and order situation in the state, the sources said.

The team would leave for New Delhi on October 18, the sources said.
