Hosur town in Tamil Nadu observes bandh

Hosur town in Tamil Nadu, bordering Karnataka, on Saturday observed a total bandh in support of the Tamil Nadu government's stand on the Hogenakkal project.

All shops remained shut. Some people in some areas burned effigies of BJP Karnataka leader Yedyurappa and Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha LK Advani, police said.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic between Hosur and Karnataka has been suspended since this morning due to the tension in border areas over the Hogenakkal issue, a top police official said

The suspension had resulted in a 10 km long traffic jam near Hosur, according to Tenmozhi, Superintendent of Police, Tirunelveli district

The Superintendent of Police, Salem, SP Bhaskaran said around 1000 activists of Jay Karnataka were expected to arrive from Pullegal and MM Hills in Karnataka to Hogenakal. They would be arrested as soon as they arrived, he said.
