The popular Qualis from the Toyota Kirloskar Motor stable recently got a facelift with the limited edition Myst. The Qualis had jumped to the top of the sales chart in this segment owing to its reliability and performance but as far as looks go, it didn’t win too many favours with its boxy exteriors and rather bland interiors. The young and the trendy had always overlooked the utilitarian aspect of the Qualis and opted for a machine from the competitor’s stable that offered more styling and looks. The Qualis had been a loser in this department and consequently relegated more to the realms of mass transporters and tour operators.

The company, perhaps now wants to change this by roping in more flamboyant buyers. Well what is different? The 2.0 litre diesel engine along with all the mechanicals and the dimensions remain the same and so does the body shell. However what some customers might find attractive are the new additions: multicoloured body stripes, chrome hood mould and a silver grill. An aluminium sidestep has been added to it which should make ingress and egress more convenient. The fabric upholstery has had a change for the better and the seats are front facing. The Qualis sits on top of the sales chart in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment in the Indian market.

The engine is powerful and the biggest USP is its reliability. The ride is comfortable and has generous dimension. The old Qualis was reliable, refined, durable but had uninspiring looks. Hopefully this limited edition variant Myst will impress a few with its attempt to look trendy and young. The Myst is priced at Rs 676,500 ex- showroom in Delhi.
