Addressing mediapersons at a press meet today, Safai Kamgaar Sangh president Mahesh Guhar charged officials with fraudulently obtaining cash deposited by sanitation workers in the form of monthly GPF instalments.
Each sanitation worker deposits a sum of Rs 375 every month with the hope of using it to pay for a high-cost event like a daughter’s wedding or a son’s education, said the Sangh president. However, this money is appropriated by Corporation officials, who take advantage of the fact that a vast majority of sanitation staffers are illiterate.
Gauhar demanded an immediate probe into the alleged bungling in GPF accounts and warned that sanitation workers would take to the streets if their demands were not met.
