India put on an uninspired performance to go down 1-3 to China in the women's hockey competition at the 15th Asian Games in Doha on Tuesday.

In a preliminary match at Al-Rayyan Hockey Field, the Chinese girls took the upper hand early in the match through a Ye Ren goal in the eighth minute.

However, the Indian defence became more alert thereafter and warded off several raids from the opposition.

In the second half, China raised the tempo and stepped up their attacks on the Indian citadel.

Baorong Fu (49th) extended the lead for China. The Indians never recovered from this blow and Fu struck again seven minutes later to seal the victory.

A minute later, Surinder Kaur grabbed a consolation goal for India. But their forwardline was too feeble to get any further breakthrough.

After this defeat, India, with three points from two matches, are placed fourth in the tally after Korea (7), Japan (7) and China (6).
