Most participants were of the view that Banaras had been leading the nation in values and traditions since long and India’s future lay in Banaras which was also popularly known as a seat of learning. However, some students were of the view that Bangalore could be a role model for the nation as it had emerged as a brand name in the field of information technology across the world.
Some students said better results could be derived if the value system of Banaras and entrepreneurial attitude of Bangalore were amalgamated. A few participants were of the view that the future of India could be bright when even the most ignored person was taken care of.
Earlier, inaugurating the debate, BHU vice-chancellor Prof Panjab Singh said the future of India lay in India and not in Banaras or Bangalore. He stressed the need for community -based research and development so that a cross-section of the society could get the benefits of academic activities.
Chairman of Sankat Mochan Foundation Prof. Veer Bhadra Mishra said there was enormous potential in Banaras. Banaras could not become Bangalore, nor could Bangalore become Banaras, he said, because both had different identities.
Prof. Ashish Tripathi was of the view that a broader approach was required towards each and every corner of the country to ensure its bright future. He said that the need of the hour was to provide jobs to unemployed youths as India’s future lay on their shoulders. Dr. Anurag Dave of Journalism and Mass Communication Department also participated in the debate.
