The West Midlands Police spokesman told PTI that the unidentified man, 24, was arrested on suspicion of the murder and was currently helping the police with their enquiries.

Jyotirmayee, who was enrolled on a postgraduate degree in Health Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton, was based in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, 11 miles from her campus at Wolverhampton.

A West Midlands Police spokesman told PTI that the post mortem examination on Jyotirmayee's body was conducted yesterday, which established that she died as a result of head injuries.

The police said that forensic tests were carried out at the premises.

This is the second incident of murder involving an Indian in the Birmingham area within the last three years.
