The four security officers - a woman deputy director, a manager and two guards - were working for a security firm, operating with an airline company at Dubai International Airport when they took the 9.3 million Saudi riyal (Dh9 million) cash consignment.

The heist took place shortly before the consignment was due to be loaded on-board a cargo plane bound for Bahrain, the Gulf News reported.

Upholding the initial ruling, the Dubai Court of Appeal sentenced all the four security officers to three years in jail. The quartet was also ordered to pay 9,379,500 riyals as a fine and return Dh50,000, which was not recovered. Two other Indian women, who were involved in the case, were also sentenced to two months in prison.

All six will be deported after serving their jail terms. Meanwhile, a seventh offender was given three months in jail for being partly involved.

According to court reports, the embezzlers' role in the theft was uncovered when police investigations led to the arrest of one of the security guards who admitted to his involvement in the theft.

Investigations revealed the 37-year-old woman deputy director, identified as MK, along with the 44-year-old manager, AL, were the masterminds behind the heist.

The consignment was being sent by RN, the 52-year-old Indian owner of a Dubai money-exchange company.
