EMPLOYEES’ STATE Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will launch new policies and programmes in this fiscal year to mark its 55th anniversary in February 2007.
ESIC Regional Director Babu Verghese P told mediapersons here today that Corporation will improve its medical services and is also looking forward to transform Indore’s ESI Hospital into a model hospital under this programme by the end of this fiscal year.
ESIC has a total of seven hospitals in the State and 142 in India. It provides five benefits to the insured people - medical benefit, handicap benefit, family benefit, maternity benefit and disease benefit.
He said that ESIC would conduct a survey to benefit more and more workers and to include more employees under insurance programme. Around 22,000 employees of 1,100 educational institutions, 11,000 employees of medical institutions and 10,600 employees of Pithampur Industrial Area and 3,100 employees of Rewa Municipal Corporation were found eligible for ESI policy under a survey conducted recently.
“Similarly around 1,200 employees of Maxi, 2,600 employees at Ghatabillod, 330 at Lasudia and at other places were found eligible to get benefit under Employees Insurance Scheme,” he added.
Verghese also informed that insurance could only be provided to people having monthly salary up to Rs 7,500 and there has been a demand to raise this limit so that more people could get benefit from the policy.
State Medical Commissioner Dr Nirmal Singh who was also present on the occasion informed that State Government has also started a revolving fund scheme for insured employees under which Rs 50 would be deducted per month from their monthly insurance instalment.
Under this scheme the insured person would get advance payment of medical expenses when he/she is referred to another hospital for further treatment.
She also said that medical facilities at the Employees’ State Insurance hospitals would be improved and hospitals would be computerised. State Government has approved the permission for opening an Insurance hospital at Pithampur Sector 3-4.
Till now Rs 1.32 crore have been paid as revolving fund in a total of 71 cases and Rs 8.79 crore have been disbursed in medical services for insured employees. A total of 1.62 lakh employees are insured in the State through which a total of 7.37 lakh people benefited.
