A seminar based on the theme of necessity of Buddhist University was part of the festival. Addressing the seminar, BD Madhyan, senior advocate of the Allahabad High Court, said the world peace depended upon the harmony in thoughts and beliefs of scholars, which required a secular initiative.

“In order to spread the mission of Buddha, it is necessary to function on the lines meant for social welfare. Worldwide publicity is also necessary and the name of the Buddhist University should reflect the ideals of Buddha,” he said.

Another speaker, Guru Prasad Madan said that it was necessary to have a Buddhist University. Although we have several several educational institutions and universities, a comprehensive study of the life of Buddha and folk literature has not been done.”

“Such university could not be conceptualised until we start thinking on the pattern of Buddhist ideologies. During the rule of Mayawati in the State, it was decided to construct a Buddhist University in Kaushambi,” he added.

Stanley Correa, special guest, said it was necessary to have a university to study the untouched details of culture and civilization of that period so that the institute gained the reputation of the universities that existed in Takshila and Nalanda.

Founder of Missionaries of Lord Buddha, AP Maurya said the education system of a country should be job-oriented. Pancham Lal, deputy registrar, High Court, said a Buddhist University was the need of the hour.
