A group of suspected militants were spotted close to IB in forward area in Hiranagar sector of the district in a bid to cross over to this side, the senior BSF officer said. The militants opened fire on the troops prompting the forces to retaliate.

There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing, he said, adding that the militant groups make movements either to infiltrate or attack BSF.

BSF troops have been directed to open fire on any suspected movement from across IB, he said, adding that they are alert to foil their designs.
