YSR Congress party president and MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy could possibly be the next to be arrested by the CBI. Gali Janardhana Reddy and Jagan Mohan Reddy are both facing a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe that is also investigating financial links between the two.
The YSR family and Gali brothers were seen to have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship that helped both parties. It was YSR Reddy, who granted Janardhana the lease for his mining operations in Andhra Pradesh.
CBI sources said that the investigations into the assets case, which is under the orders of Andhra Pradesh high court, have reached a crucial stage and interrogation of the Kadapa MP has become necessary. The arrest of Gali Janardhan Reddy and his alleged links with Jagan also needs to be probed.
The CBI apparently wanted to effect the arrest earlier but that was pre-empted by Jagan's move to shift to Delhi to attend parliament. Since arriving in Delhi on Monday Jagan is trying to play the role of a victim and drum up support of various political parties against the CBI "witch hunt".
Jagan has also denied having any business links with the Galli brothers.
"My father campaigned against Bellary brothers," he said, adding that there is no link between Janardhana Reddy and his party and that CBI has not proved any nexus
Responding to reports of his possible arrest, he told a news channel "If so happens, let that injustice be also be seen by God…God will teach them a lesson."
The CBI is likely to wait till the Parliament session ends on September 8. This way the agency can avoid seeking permission of Lok Sabha Speaker as well as avoid the issue being raised in Lok Sabha by the two Congress MPs openly supporting Jagan. The agency is likely to effect the arrest in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the CBI is focusing on unraveling the link between two companies RR Global and Redgold Enterprises, belonging to Jagan's close associate R Diwakar Reddy. These two companies in turn have huge investments in Janardhan Reddy's Obulapuram mining company(OMC). Diwakar Reddy's brother R Reddy is a director in Jagathi Publications, the media company owned by Jagan and the two companies had invested over Rs 40 crore in Jagan's media empire.
The agency also believes that Janardhana Reddy had made huge quid pro quo investments into Jagan's Jagati Publications in return for unhindered illegal mining in Anantapur district.
The CBI's Hyderabad office started looking into the contents of the four laptops and few computer hard disks seized from the office and residences of Gali Janardhan Reddy and Srinivas Reddy at Bellary and Bangalore on Sunday.
