The case was registered on Tuesday evening. A notice in the same matter was issued to Jayaprada by the district administration Sunday.

"Though Jayaprada filed a reply to the notice Monday, we found it unsatisfactory and directed the police to register a case against her for luring women voters," Sub Divisional Magistrate D.P. Singh told IANS on phone.

In her reply to the notice, Jayaprada denied having distributed bindis and alleged that her political opponents distributed the packets in the Swar locality of Rampur, about 250 km from Lucknow.

However, video footage clearly shows Jayaprada distributing bindis with the Samajwadi Party symbol, said Singh.

"For initiating further action against Jayaprada, we will inform the State Election Commission about the incident," he added.
