Karuna slams detractors for criticising govt

Hitting out at his detractors for criticising his rule, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Friday that he was open to criticism but they should not "harbour thoughts" of toppling the government by doing so.

Hitting out at his detractors for criticising his rule, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Friday that he was open to criticism but they should not "harbour thoughts" of toppling the government by doing so.

"No government is flawless. If someone finds a fault with the government, they can point it out and we will rectify it and continue to function. But if somebody criticises us for the sake of it, that cannot be democracy," he said.

People can point out mistakes, but they have to cooperate with the government, he said while launching a free saree-dhoti scheme for the Pongal festival.

"They should not make it their sole business to find faults and thus harbour thoughts of toppling the government as we have the people's support," he said.
