While Kejriwal can officially stay at the residence for at least 20 days, sources say he plans to stay on till April as his daughter has her Class-12 exams coming up and shifting base would disturb her studies.

Kejriwal's wife has already surrendered the Indian Revenue Service flat allotted to her at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad, where the family was staying earlier.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief had shifted to the Tilak Lane home hardly two weeks ago with his wife, two kids and parents.

Now, the former chief minister is planning to get the Tilak Lane house allotted in his wife's name. In case the allotment is not possible, he will pay rent as per the market price to continue staying there.

"The family has surrendered the Kaushambi house. But with his daughter's examination slated for March, Kejriwal does not want to shift base again as it will disturb her preparations," said an AAP member on condition of anonymity.

"The move will prove beneficial to the party too. With the Lok Sabha elections just around the corner, Kejriwal will remain close to the people of Delhi and can even hold janta darbars."

Senior Delhi government officials said that as per rules, Kejriwal could stay at the official residence for six months but he would have to pay rent as per the market price.
