The mishap happened at 5:10 am at the local iron mine in the suburbs of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi, when an elevated stretch of land slipped and buried a temporary tent where 12 migrant workers were sleeping.

Except one worker who escaped unhurt, the rest were rushed to the nearest hospital where they were declared dead, the official Xinhua news agency reported quoting a construction company official as saying.

The workers were constructing a pump station at Jianshan Iron Mine, about 120 km away from downtown Taiyuan, the report said.
