Though David Beckham may have mastered the art of bending the ball with ease; he finds it managing a few words of Spanish awfully difficult. The English soccer captain has struggled to learn the language since moving to Real Madrid in 2003.
His Spanish language skill lately was the subject of a jibe by veteran TV football presenter Des Lynam on the BBC2 comedy show Grumpy Old Men, where he was shown uttering a few words of Spanish on the show.
"He's doing well with the Spanish isn't he? He's got virtually a whole sentence out there now. It's pretty good and I think he's done rather well with it. I mean he's only lived there a year. That's not nearly long enough to get the second sentence out," the Mirror quoted Des Lynam, 63, as joking.
Beckham's mistranslations have become commonplace with him recently praising Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann's "sobriety" and once describing Freddie Ljungberg as a "polyvalent", a chemistry term.
However Becks has not given up his quest for mastering the language saying, "I will get there, but I need time."
However Beckham's football skills also seem to be on a temporary wane, with him being sent back to the bench as Real Madrid struggled to draw 1-1 at Getafe on Sunday night in the Primera Liga.
Becks dazzles Posh with 8m pound necklace!
England football captain David Beckham certainly believes in the saying ‘Diamonds are a girl's best friends', for he is reportedly buying an 8 million pound Bulgari necklace for wife Victoria as a birthday gift.
And, on top of the glittering diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald necklace, which happens to be a one-off copy, Beckham is also splashing out an additional 10,000 pounds to fly out a team of top chefs from London's trendy Japanese restaurant Nobu to cook for her in Spain, for her surprise Japanese-themed 32nd birthday party.
A friend of Beckham said that Posh was sure to be thrilled by the party, for the Japanese restaurant happened to be her favourite.
“Nobu's is Victoria's favourite so we know she will be thrilled,” Newsoftheworld quoted the friend, as saying.
