There was a complete blackout in the region in the absence of power supply that was the worst hit and could only be restored in most of the parts of the district in the morning hours on Monday; while in the absence of power water supply was another causality.

There was no drinking water available to the people in various parts of the district in general and Hamirpur town in particular on Monday in the absence of power and damage inflicted on the main water supply channel.

Disrupted water supply has also affected daily life of the people.

Meanwhile, an official of the department of irrigation-cum-public health said the normal supply could only be restored by Tuesday morning.

The department officials were not only working to restore the water supply, but were personally supervising the entire operations, the official added.

Meanwhile, the bad weather had inflicted huge damage on maize crops in the district. The standing crops were brought down by the strong wind, leaving no scope for recovery, said Santosh Kumar of Rangas area in the district.

He said the damage was so widespread that even the farmers took it by surprise, adding that hopes of the farmers to have bumper maize crops were dashed.

On other hand, the temperature in the region has also fallen sharply due to the inclement weather, forcing people to put on warm clothes.
