A bomb packed in a lunch box was on Wednesday found near a tank at Thiruvathavur, about 15 km from Madurai, police said.

Initial probe revealed that the lunch box was kept in a Madurai-bound bus at Melur around 7 am, and since none came forward to claim it, the bus attendants threw it near the tank, they said.

A local youth saw the box being thrown out of the bus and informed the police.

The box has been seized and investigations are on, the police said, adding that the bus attendants are also being questioned.
